The January Power Loss of Cruise Ships

cruises in the news

The MSC Opera is not the only cruise ship that experienced power outages in January. There were also issues with the Viking Sky and Carnival Triumph. Fortunately, no one was left stranded. Carnival Cruise Lines confirmed on January 25 that no ships were stranded.

MSC Opera

Over 1,700 passengers were left stranded after the MSC Opera cruise ship lost its power off the coast the Baltic Sea. The malfunction, a technical issue with the electrical panel, left the ship without power, lighting, or water. The ship lost its hotel service as a result. The ship drifted for three more days until tugboats could intercept it and tow the ship to a port nearby. The ship was then pulled to Nynamshamn in Stockholm.

The MSC Opera was spared from any injuries. The ship was just six miles/ten kilometers away from Visby when it experienced a power outage that affected its electrical, running water and toilet systems. As a result, the ship was forced to cancel its 10 day cruise to Southampton. MSC Cruises offers to rebook and return the money.

Viking Sky

The high risk of Arctic travel by cruise ships highlighted by the recent Viking Sky ship accident in Hustadvika in Norway. This incident highlighted the risks associated with failures of safety equipment onboard and the consequences for crew members and passengers. As cruise ships continue to make the journey, this risk is expected to increase.

The cruise ship suffered engine failure in rough seas off the coast of Norway on Saturday. The ship was barely minutes away from the coast when its engines went out. But the crew managed to turn three engines back on and maneuver the ship towards shore. It is estimated that about half of the 1,373 passengers were airlifted away to safety. Most of them were American citizens or British.

Carnival Triumph

After an engine room fire, the Carnival Triumph lost its power. Four days of drifting in the Gulf of Mexico was what the ship did. It was eventually towable to Mobile in Alabama. But not before the passengers on board filed a lawsuit against Carnival for breach of contract and negligence. They detailed the problems they'd experienced and demanded answers.

Although the captain of the ship was able to lighten the generator, the cruise ship lost its power for eight minutes. The power cut affected three decks, including the incinerator, and caused a smoke problem.

MSC Ecstasy

MDMA (also known as Ecstasy) is a synthetic stimulant. It's derived from the amphetamines family. There are many MDMA types, all of which have similar effects. These include MDA, MDEA, and MBDB (N-methyl-1-(3,4-dioxol-5-yl)-butanamine). There are other substances in some products. MDMA, for example, is often mixed with LSD (a dissociative tranquilizer) or with mushrooms to make XTC and "hippieflip".

MDMA use has been linked with many adverse effects, and should be a concern for many. Many MDMA users report feelings of disinhibition and derealization. Other users report feeling more connected to their ideal selves. It is possible that they feel as though they are in direct communion with God.

How To

How to be safe on a cruise ship

There are many things to be aware of before you board a cruise ship. To avoid getting into trouble, you must know how to behave onboard. Here are some safety tips that will help you enjoy your trip.

  1. Always be aware of what is happening around you. People often gather onboard cruise ships to share meals. It's easy to become distracted from your duties because you're surrounded by people who want to chat and eat. Do not let people distract you from your task. You should tell someone to stop doing something that is dangerous like smoking or drinking alcohol.
  2. Always keep your room key close to you when you board the ship, and hand over your room key to the person checking you in. This way, they'll know where to find you if anything happens to you. You should also have your passport on you.
  3. Your valuables should be kept out of reach. Most cabins have drawers under their beds. It's a great spot to store money, passports, and credit cards. Make sure that nothing valuable is visible from plain sight. Your bags should be kept in the closet, so that no one can see them.
  4. Hydrate. Even though cruise ships are well-stocked with water, it can sometimes be hard to remember how much. Make use of the free bottled water provided throughout the ship. Keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration can cause fatigue and make it difficult to concentrate, leading to arguments or even accidents.
  5. Listen to announcements carefully. Announcements are displayed everywhere, including on TV screens. They include safety procedures as well emergency exits and even weather reports. These announcements will be of great importance. These announcements might save your own life.
  6. Do not leave your cabin without first locking the door. No matter how friendly or helpful a crewmember may appear, lock your cabin. Many thieves break into cabins by stealing the doors. You should ask the crew for permission before you use the restroom.
  7. Avoid falling overboard alone. It can take some time for the ship's crew and you to be rescued from the water. Sharks and other marine creatures might be attracted to you while you wait. You should wait until help arrives.
  8. Do not smoke in an elevator. These elevators are pressurized and smoke can build up quickly. You should immediately get off if you feel dizzy, lightheaded or confused. It doesn't necessarily mean that breathing is safe, even though the outside air is clean.
  9. Know the evacuation procedure. Every year, thousands die from being trapped in an elevator. Follow the instructions on screen if you are in an emergency.
  10. Learn the basics of the fire drill. Fire drills are usually conducted once per day. Everyone on deck must evacuate during a drill. Follow the directions given by the crew members. Once the drill is over, you can go back to the cabin and lock the doors.
  11. Ask questions before you accept food and drinks. Cruisers can get food poisoning. Many people don't realize that certain foods aren't safe to eat while onboard a ship. On most cruise ships, raw oysters are prohibited. If you aren't sure if the food being offered to you is safe, politely decline and choose another meal.
  12. Take care when you use the pool. There have been many cases of passengers falling into the pools accidentally. You should not fall into the pools unless someone spots you. It is also possible to slip on the ground. Always wear appropriate footwear and pay close attention to what's around you.
