News and Information

Holland America is getting ready for a big year of epic cruises to destinations across the globe. Holland America has announced a number new itineraries, some of which span several weeks. These include a 74 night circumnavigation around South America aboard the Zaandam as well as a 128 night world cruise on Volendam.

Beth Bodensteiner said that the Holland America line focuses on itineraries allowing travelers to experience the world right at their doorstep.

Another example is the company's latest Black Friday offer, which features a "Time of Your Life" package on all summer 2023 through spring 2024 departures that will save Guests an average of $500 per person. How To

How to avoid becoming seasick during a cruise

The best way to avoid seasickness on a cruise is by wearing a hat. Wide-brimmed caps prevent motion sickness and keep the head from moving too often.

Also, a cap keeps water off the skin and helps to reduce the moisture content of the air. This makes breathing easier for people prone to feeling dizzy when they breathe in moist air.

Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid alcohol or caffeine. These drinks dehydrate the body and make it harder for fluids to move around the stomach. Salt levels can be decreased by drinking enough liquids. Salt causes the body to retain water which leads to nausea.

If you do feel nauseous, try eating something salty. Salty foods increase the production of hydrochloric, which helps to break down food.

There are medication options available to help seasickness. Side effects of some medications include dry mouth, dry eyes, constipation and blurred vision.
